Khmer Temple - Prasat Hin Phimai
The temple complex was erected out of stone during the golden age of the Khmer empire,
11th and 12th centuries.
Its oblong shape is surrounded by several rings of walls with four entrances directed toward the four
gates of the town in all four cardinal directions.
.
Since the 1930s archeologists have been at work restoring this largest Khmer temple site
within Thailand. In the early 1950ies it was included in the young king’s first tour of his country.
In 1989 the temple complex was officially named Phimai Historical Park. Now one has the opportunity
to reminisce about early Khmer times and to savor the intricate splendor of the Angkor Wat culture.
